Title Tag

The title tag is the clickable blue headline shown in Google search results and in your browser tab. It's the most important on-page SEO element for a page. Optimal length is 50–60 characters. In Shopify, it's set in the "Page title" field under each page's SEO settings.

Why It Matters for Shopify Stores

Title tags have a direct impact on both rankings and click-through rates. For Shopify stores, the most common mistake is using the same title format for every product — typically just the product name — without including brand name, key descriptors, or category terms. A well-optimized title tag for a product might be: '14K Gold Hoop Earrings — Ethically Sourced | BrandName'. This signals to Google what the page is about and gives searchers a clear reason to click.

How to Check Your Store

In Shopify Admin > Products/Collections > Search Engine Listing > Page title. Check if titles are unique, include target keywords, and fall within 50–60 characters. You can also use our Meta Tag Checker to scan titles automatically.

How to Fix It

Format: [Product Name] — [Key Differentiator] | [Brand Name]. Keep under 60 characters. Use different title formulas for products vs collections vs blog posts to avoid duplicate title issues across your store.
