Customer Reviews

Customer reviews are written evaluations of products by verified purchasers, typically displayed on product pages with a star rating. For Shopify stores, reviews are usually managed by third-party apps (Judge.me, Yotpo, Loox, Stamped) that handle collection, display, and schema markup.

Why It Matters for Shopify Stores

Reviews are the most powerful trust signal available to most DTC brands. Products with 10+ reviews convert at 3x the rate of products with zero reviews, regardless of the average rating. More than the reviews themselves, the structured data (AggregateRating schema) they enable can display star ratings in Google search results — a conversion multiplier before the click even happens. This is why broken review schema is one of the most expensive technical issues a Shopify store can have.

How to Check Your Store

Visit your product pages to see if reviews are displaying. Test with Google's Rich Results Test to verify AggregateRating schema is outputting correctly. Check your review app settings for 'Rich Snippets' or 'SEO' options.

How to Fix It

Install a review app if you don't have one. Enable schema markup in the app settings. Send post-purchase review request emails. Import reviews from other platforms if available.
