Conversion Rate

Conversion rate is the percentage of store visitors who complete a purchase. The industry average for Shopify stores is 1.5–2.5%, with top-performing stores reaching 3–5%. It's calculated as (orders ÷ sessions) × 100. A 1% conversion rate on 10,000 monthly visitors means 100 orders.

Why It Matters for Shopify Stores

Conversion rate is the single most important metric for DTC ecommerce because it determines how much revenue you extract from every dollar of marketing spend. Doubling your conversion rate from 1% to 2% doubles revenue without spending a dollar more on ads. The average Shopify store has significant conversion rate headroom — most underperform due to missing trust signals, slow mobile load times, poor product photography, or friction in the checkout process.

How to Check Your Store

In Shopify Analytics > Overview, find your store conversion rate. In Google Analytics, ecommerce conversion rate is under Conversions > Ecommerce. Benchmark against your niche: fashion averages 1–2%, electronics 1.5–2.5%, beauty 2–4%.
